MBC 08: The Power to be Thankful!

July 14th, 2008

Well, the first day of MBC is now over, and I’m exhausted. I forget how tiring it is to work with so many kids for such a long time. I even took a short nap afterwards, something that I usually try to avoid. Anyways, I was able to take a good number of pictures for today, but it’d take me too long to go through them all and post them all online. I’ll probably get to that sometime later this week. In the meantime, enjoy these 4 pictures that I liked.

All in all, a great first day and a great rest of the week to come.

MBC 08: Power Lab

July 13th, 2008

Well, it’s that time of year again where Music and Bible Camp is about to start again. I’ll luckily be able to help out the whole week this year, so be on the look out this week for some picture posts. Here’s one for starters.

To Comment or Not to Comment?

June 30th, 2008

No, I’m not talking about leaving comments on my webpage, though comments are always appreciated. Instead, I’m talking about whether or not you would interject in a random person’s conversation if you overheard them talking about something that you knew about?

I’ve always had this thought during the times that I’ve been in stores where the sales person is trying to make a sale and telling the customer all sorts of stuff. Usually, the sales person is it in for themselves, trying to make a sale, with the customer not really knowing what they’re looking for. If you hear the sales person saying something like “Getting this item will really make things better,” and you know that for the most part, that item won’t really do anything to help the customer, do you step in and give advice to the random stranger about to be duped? Or do you just laugh to yourself, and think that you know better, then keep walking?

What if let’s say you’re at a restaurant eating, and you overhear the table next to you and you hear one person tell the person their eating with something that’s completely wrong and you know it’s wrong. The person listening doens’t seem like they know it’s wrong, so they believe what they’re hearing. Do you offer your own comments, of course in a nice manner?

I’ve typically stayed quiet figuring that for the most part it’s not my place to make a comment. But maybe I should be commenting in the future? What do you do? Do you pass on your knowledge or do you keep quiet not knowing the other people? :?: Leave a comment and let me know!

A Recital and an Initiation Day

June 24th, 2008

I wanted to post a couple of pictures that I was able to take from this past weekend’s events. First on Saturday, Wesley had his senior recital where he rocked out on his electric violin (as well as a normal one). Then on Sunday, we had a student planned/led YG Inititiation/Summer kickoff day. I wasn’t able to get many pictures, but here are just a few from the weekend.

My Lack of Balance

June 19th, 2008

Wii FitSo awhile ago, Mazie was able to get her hands on a Wii Fit for us. I must say that Nintendo did a pretty good job coming up with the idea for the Fit. What better way to market to a completely different crowd than to use exercise as a selling point.

Anyways, among the categories included on the game where one can train in are: Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics, and Balance. The balance games tend to be the most fun as they’re more “game” oriented than they are exercise oriented. What the Wii Fit showed me though, was how bad my balance was.

There’s one game on the Fit that requires the person to stand on the board and shift their weight back and forth as if they were skiing down a slope. With how clumsy I am, and how terrible my balance is, I find myself unable to complete the game without stepping off the board. Ideally, you should be able to easily shift your weight to the left and to the right to guide your Mii down the slope without losing balance and having to step off. However, it doesn’t seem to be possible for me. It’s actually pretty humorous to watch me attempt to keep my balance as I always fall off within 5-10 seconds of shifting my weight back and forth.

I guess that’s one bad thing about being tall… your center of balance isn’t as low as someone who’s shorter, causing you to lose your balance more easily. Despite that though, I think I’d still rather be tall. If I ever get around to it, maybe I’ll post a video of me attempting to play so that you can all get a laugh out of it.

Congrats to David and Cindy!

June 11th, 2008

Congratulations to David and Cindy on their marriage this past weekend in San Francisco! It was fun to get to travel out there and see some of the old youth groupers again. It doesn’t happen very often since most everyone’s spread throughout the country nowadays, so weddings are always a good time to reunite. David and Cindy had a great wedding and it was funny to hear Cindy’s dad come up with a song to sing for their wedding. Anyways, here are a couple of pictures that I was able to take.
