Beware of Bus Butt!

Before I was married to Mazie, I had never really heard of the concept of “Bus Butt.” I never really paid much attention to where I sat out in public and what I sat on when I went back home. However, with Mazie being a cleaner person compared to me, she introduced me to the idea of “Bus Butt.”
The basic idea for those that don’t know is that when you wear your clothes out and about, you sit in public places where there are plenty of unknown germs. Then you come back home, basically bringing those unknown germs back into your own home. The worse part is when you’re still wearing your jeans that you wore while outside and then go lie in your bed bringing all those germs onto your own bed. This freaks Mazie out to no end since it’s bringing germs onto the bed.
I used to never think twice about laying in bed with my jeans or pants on that I wore outside, but since meeting Mazie, that is no longer a possibility. It’s actually somewhat funny since I can get her somewhat worked up by pretending to jump on the bed with my “Bus Butt” pants.
So now that I’ve informed you all of “Bus Butt”, make sure that you’re not lying in bed with the pants that you wore while sitting on something out in public. You never know what might’ve been sitting there before you!
The Joys of Sleep!
So on Friday night, the youth group joined in a lock-in with other youth groups who were apart of the youth association of Rochester. Unlike lock-in’s that we’ve typically done in the past with the youth group, for this lock-in, sleep was optional. Being a leader, I had to help out by staying up and keeping a watch over things. Gotta make sure the kids don’t get too crazy.
Now I’ve never really been one to pull all-nighters. I’ve actually never pulled an all-nighter for anything related to school, for good or bad. So this was the first time in a long while that I was forgoing sleep. Fortunately, I had games, conversation, sports to help keep me up for the night, although I did “fall asleep” for like 20 minutes while sitting in a chair at about 5 in the morning.
Luckily for me, I was able to make it through the entire night before coming back home. After showering, I went to my bed and promptly slept for 5 hours. I think I woke up around the 3 hour mark, looked at the clock, and then went back to sleep. Even though I got 8 hours of sleep last night, I’m still trying to recover from lack of sleep.
Maybe I’m simply getting older, but boy is it nice to be able to get a good nights rest. This is probably why I never pulled all-nighters for work… or maybe it was just cause I valued sleep over school
The Happiness of being Tall

As most probably have read, I’ve written previous posts on why it’s better to be tall than short. As I was reading the news today, I came across another article that again showed why it’s better to be tall!
According to the study that was performed, taller people on average are happier than shorter people.
Data from a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index study found taller people were more satisfied with their lives, more likely to report positive emotions like enjoyment and happiness, and less likely to report emotions like anger, sadness, and stress.
So there you have it, another reason why it’s better to be taller.
The Cure for Fattness!

So I was looking through the news today, and came across an article that talked about how thinking made people eat more.
The study described how it had 3 groups of people, one group who sat around doing nothing, another group who was just reading, and a third group that was taking some memory tests. Each group did their task for 45 minutes, and then were allowed to just eat however much they wanted to afterwards. The study showed that the group that had to take the test consumed the most number of calories, while the group reading, the second most, and the group just sitting around, consumed the fewest number of calories.
This implies that the act of thinking causes us to want to eat more. So my cure for people who are trying to avoid getting fat, is to just simply stop thinking! No studying, worrying, planning, or any other type of heavy thinking activity, and you’ll be less likely to want to eat more. The less you eat, the fewer calories you gain, therefore allowing you to not gain as much weight.
Americans must really be thinking a lot then to cause the high percentage of obesity in this country…
To Comment or Not to Comment?
No, I’m not talking about leaving comments on my webpage, though comments are always appreciated.
Instead, I’m talking about whether or not you would interject in a random person’s conversation if you overheard them talking about something that you knew about?
I’ve always had this thought during the times that I’ve been in stores where the sales person is trying to make a sale and telling the customer all sorts of stuff. Usually, the sales person is it in for themselves, trying to make a sale, with the customer not really knowing what they’re looking for. If you hear the sales person saying something like “Getting this item will really make things better,” and you know that for the most part, that item won’t really do anything to help the customer, do you step in and give advice to the random stranger about to be duped? Or do you just laugh to yourself, and think that you know better, then keep walking?
What if let’s say you’re at a restaurant eating, and you overhear the table next to you and you hear one person tell the person their eating with something that’s completely wrong and you know it’s wrong. The person listening doens’t seem like they know it’s wrong, so they believe what they’re hearing. Do you offer your own comments, of course in a nice manner?
I’ve typically stayed quiet figuring that for the most part it’s not my place to make a comment. But maybe I should be commenting in the future? What do you do? Do you pass on your knowledge or do you keep quiet not knowing the other people?
Leave a comment and let me know!
Waiting in Line
So last week I had to go to the bank a couple of times to deposit some checks. I usually go during lunch, since I have some spare time and the bank is only down the street from where I work. Typically, I have to wait in line no more than 5 minutes or so before a I make it to a teller. However, one time, I ended up having to wait around 15 minutes or so due to the long line. This made me think about all the other times that I’ve had to wait in lines.
What is it about waiting in lines that causes people to get upset or lose their patience? You’ll typically see this a lot when you’re at places where it’s common to have to wait in line, such as a bank, a dmv, or an airport. People can seem all nice and happy, but once they hit that line, they become impatient, annoyed, and sometimes angry. I’ve also been annoyed with long lines, but I usually end up realizing that there’s no point in me getting angry since that’s not going to do any good.
So anyone have any ideas as to why lines tend to bring out the worst in people?
