To Change or Not to Change?
So I was reading the news today and saw an article about Dora the Explorer and how they were updating her image. The article was actually pretty funny since it went on to describe how upset people were getting that they would change how Dora looked.
This got me thinking how people will say that they like change, yet when that change affects them, they’re completely against it. For the most part, I’d say the majority of people are simply against change because it’s different from what they’re used to. Take Facebook for instance, with their recently updated look, you have people complaining left and right about how they don’t like the new look. Maybe this just goes to show how addicted people are to facebook since they’re complaining as if it has a negative impact on their lives.
I saw another article recently that had surveyed people regarding government spending verses taxes. The conclusion that the article gave was that people were ok with government spending as long as it didn’t cause their taxes to go higher. They would be ok taxing other people though, just not themselves. Again, this shows the double standard people have with change. As long as it doesn’t cause things in their own lives to change, people are generally happy.
In my opinion, if people simply learned to accept that things will change, then they’d be able to be happier instead of constantly being upset when something they were accustomed to changed. I’ve heard a saying that said “Hell is where nothing changes.” Life would be pretty boring if nothing changed. So stop complaining and change!
