Waiting in Line

with one comment

Waiting in lineSo last week I had to go to the bank a couple of times to deposit some checks. I usually go during lunch, since I have some spare time and the bank is only down the street from where I work. Typically, I have to wait in line no more than 5 minutes or so before a I make it to a teller. However, one time, I ended up having to wait around 15 minutes or so due to the long line. This made me think about all the other times that I’ve had to wait in lines.

What is it about waiting in lines that causes people to get upset or lose their patience? You’ll typically see this a lot when you’re at places where it’s common to have to wait in line, such as a bank, a dmv, or an airport. People can seem all nice and happy, but once they hit that line, they become impatient, annoyed, and sometimes angry. I’ve also been annoyed with long lines, but I usually end up realizing that there’s no point in me getting angry since that’s not going to do any good.

So anyone have any ideas as to why lines tend to bring out the worst in people?
