This past weekend was the annual RCCC retreat at Watson Homestead. The theme for the youth group program was “Our Mission“, basically the mission statement for the youth group. The mission statement for the youth group is the following:

“Our youth ministry exists to Glorify God by Reaching teens for Christ, Caring for them, Teaching them to Grow in the Lord, and Equipping them for His Service”

This retreat was different in a way, because the youth discipleship partners were the ones to lead the lessons. Alex, Boaz, Martin, Olivia, and Wesley all did a great job teaching on the 5 different parts of the mission statement. Hopefully the youth group will continue to work towards fullfilling the mission statement, and really build up a youth group that can really say that it does Glorify God.

Some of the other highlites from the weekend include the following:

Cubin’ … who knew that the Rubik’s cube would be so popular again. I think there are about 5 kids in the youth group who all now know how to solve the rubik’s cube. I on the other hand, need to stick with peeling off stickers to make them match up.

Creativity! - I want to say that this group of youth groupers has to be one of the most creative groups to be in the youth group. Groups had to come up with skits to help people memorize the mission statement. Among the results included a rhymed story, a “rap” done to the motions of the Macarena, a Musical, a MS paint style power point slideshow, and the creation of a whole song. I have videos of some of the groups performing, I just need to figure out how to get it on youtube or something.

Campfire - As usual, the campfire is always a great time of sharing. It was great hearing people share about what God had done in their lives, and their hopes for the youth group. It’s always encouraging hearing so many people share openly about things too.
