FAFYBGC
December 19th, 2006
Us first year ChemEs got a little bored over thanksgiving and started the FAFYBGC:
First Annual First Year Beard Growing Contest.
The objective, see who can grow the most facial hair in the time between Thanksgiving and the first day of Final Exams. All entrants were accepted, (although women were strongly discouraged from entering), and the resulting beards at the end of the school year would be graded by the females of the class on a 10 point scale.
Here’s my entry:

Three weeks of facial hair and this is all I get.
I got third to last place. with an average rating of 3.83/10.
(The lowest got a 1.7, the highest 7.2)
After the competition, the objective was then to remove the hair in stages. Shave whatever you wish on monday, then shave everything EXCEPT the moustache on Tuesday (to pay tribute to Diamond Bill Deen).
Here are my results. I find them quite funny, let’s see what you all think.

I like the last one, I look like a dirty mexican. A couple classmates looked more like creepy pedophiles, so I can’t complain.

I’m disappointed… although I do like the look in the second pic. Confucius say…

Does your ChemE contest include non-Asian first-years also? Just wondering if your ratings compare with a mostly Asian group or the general MIT population. At least the mustache grew okay, though it doesn’t blend well with lack of sideburns, which I think is key to true facial hair growth.
