Hardcore Obscure Bible Characters of the Old Testament
April 17th, 2006
So yesterday in Chengjou’s cell group, we picked a theme to study for the remainder of the semester. After some deliberation, we came upon the theme of “Hardcore Obscure Bible Characters of the Old Testament.”
What a topic!
So what does this involve? People written about in the Bible (whether godly or ungodly) that are not usually mentioned in everyday conversation, and yet exhibit some aspect of extremeness or “hardcore”-ness. All criteria must be met before a bible study is planned.
Some examples that are NOT usable:
Jesus - Hardcore enough to die on the cross; mentioned and prophesied countless times in the OT; but HARDLY obscure, since the religion is named after him.
Paul - This guy never married, went on three missions trips and almost died by stoning/beating/lashing/imprisonment also wrote 14 books of the bible (half of the NT). Too bad he’s not from the OT, nor is he obscure.
Zimri - The king of Israel found only in 1 King 16, is definitely obscure and of the Old Testament, but the fact that he died 7 days after becoming king (and thus having the shortest reign in the Bible) is hardly hardcore.
Chuck Norris - Well he is hardcore, too bad he isn’t in the Bible.
So what characters did we decide on?
Here’s my list of Hardcore Obscure Bible Characters of the Old Testament. you might recognize the characters, but if you can also say what they did that made them hardcore, then props to you.
Ezekiel
Balaam
Hosea
Micaiah
If you have any suggestions, feel free to make them. We could use more studies.

Jabaz is a good one, I believe all that is mentioned of him is a prayer, but that prayer is unbelievable. There are actually several books I have heard of that are entirely devoted to the prayer of Jabaz and how if we all prayed this way our lives would be so much richer. You might try him.
