Old School: Oregon Trail!

Oregon TrailFor those that are old enough, how many of you have played the game Oregon Trail? I think it was the very first game that I played. I remember playing the game on the computer back in elementary school! It was a learning game about the past travels on the Oregon Trail.

I would always pick to be the banker since the banker had the most money. The fun part of the game was going hunting and shooting all the animals. The only problem with that was you could only carry back so much meat even though you’d shoot 3 bears. Then you had to deal with your family just dying of diseases! You’d get messages like “You have died of dysentery”, and be down a family member.

I recently downloaded a copy of the game since it’s so old, it’s actually free to download. It was definitely a fun game. Oh how simple things used to be. I wonder how many people actually remember/played that game? Hopefully it’s a lot, otherwise I’d feel old… :shock:

  1. whoa! i remember playing that game too. actually, i stil l have it.. and i remember making the wagon like go through the very worse so that it’ll like break or blowup or something. haha, it was a classic

  8. What a great game! I almost got detention in middle school for imitating the deer when it died (by laying down on the floor). I also got Oregon Trail II for Christmas one year. Where did you download the original from?

(and still enjoy it now)

  28. WOW.. I was reminded of this game by looking at the New Nebraska quarters, it has the chimney rock on it, and I this game came to mind. I decided to see if i could find it online, and sure enough, this blog was the first link. I used to play this game all the time in 6th grade on our “high tech” computers. this is insane!! I love this game!!
