If Only I Knew!
October 6th, 2005
I’m sure everyone out there has done something that they’ve later gone to regret. We might regret that we did something even though we knew that we shouldn’t have, or we might regret that we didn’t do something when we should have. While no one’s perfect and will always be able to do the right thing, everyone should still atleast think about the consequences of their actions.
Suppose you had the ability to know the outcome of any action or non-action you took. Would that change your decision making any? If you knew you’d get into trouble, would you still want to go through with it and get in trouble in the end? Or what if you knew that by taking a series of actions, that you would be rewarded? I’m sure most everyone would definitely follow through if they knew that they would be rewarded at the end of it. While some people, even if they knew they’d get into some trouble, would continue ahead anyways, I’m thinking most people wouldn’t.
If only life were that easy though! If only we knew what would happen if we took a certain course of action, then things would be a lot easier. However, most of the time, we do have atleast some sort of an idea as to the consequences or gains, we just choose to ignore it. This is where our responsibility comes into play. Sure, anyone can just do whatever they want, and then deal with the consequences later, but I say that responsible people will think about what they’re doing. Will their actions lead to a result that’s positive or negative? Will they be hurting other people, themselves, or both? Is it worth it to be popular if in the end you lose your true friends? Is it better to go have fun now if it prevents you from having fun in the future? If only everyone would think about what they’re doing, and hopefully choose the right thing to do. It would cause for fewer problems for everyone.

but then if you’re always thinking about the (possible) consequences, you never have fun.

that’s not true, you can still have fun while being responsible

It’s true…every action has a consequence. It’s good to be using the brain that God gave us and be thinking about what we do. That definitely doesn’t mean you can’t have fun though. People have this idea that being responsible equals boredom…or something.
