If I ask you, “what’s the shortest verse in the Bible?” most people will reply
1 Thessalonians 5:17 - pray continually;
Others might say,
John 11:35 - Jesus wept.

what is the shortest verse in the new king james verson i am doing homework and i need to know it because i will get a F and my teacher is certain it is not John 11:35 so can u please give me the answer

I guess it depends on which bible you use. As a Catholic who uses the New American Bible the shortest verse is John 11:35 “And Jesus wept” as Job 3:2 is “Job spoke out and said, and 1Thessalonians5:17 is “Pray without ceasing”. So we need to clarify which bible one uses.

It just helped me in my four hundred scripture test… I know all the short verses said over and over, but I didnt know the he said one that’s quality!!!!:cool::smile:

I disagree. Job 3:2 cannot be the shortest verse because it’s length is dependant on the translation you are reading. John 11:35 is the most consistent 2 word verse no matter what translation you read. This is why it is claimed the shortest and will remain.

What version of the Bible are you Getting your information from?
King James version says.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-Pray without ceasing.
John 11:35 - Jesus wept.

All have Zero words. NIV does it again. Beat that.

i think john 11:35 is the shortest verse because all bibles i have researched have accually said “jesus wept” but job 3:2 have said different things for example “and job spoke and said” plus theres no winner there both two words:!::!: no offense though:smile:
