I was lucky enough to be invited into an AIM chat room by some of the youth groupers last night. While there were some older YGers, I would say most of them were younger. As I was talking to them, I asked them what I should post about. Their response was that I post about their crazy chat room. I of course agreed, so am now posting about my chatroom experience with the YGers.

Let me start off by saying, you need to learn how to speed read in order to follow along with the conversation that goes on. With about 7 people in it all at once, the conversation rarely stayed on one topic for longer than a few minutes. Even then, most everyone contributed in one form or another which added to the speedy text. If you stop paying attention to the chat room for only a minute or two, you’ll be completely lost as they’ll most likely have moved onto a completely different topic. It almost makes your head dizzy trying to keep up. I guess this is why the younger generation of kids are becoming better at multitasking, although this may also be leading to poorer grammar and spelling as everything becomes IM text.

It was definitely an interesting and fun time trying to keep up and follow along while trying to contribute to the conversation as well. Definitely makes me feel older if I can barely follow along. Fortunately, they were kind enough to invite me to join in. Hopefully, I’ll have the opportunity to do so again in the future.
