It’s better to be tall!

Just for fun, I figured I’d write a post on why it’s better to be tall, than to be short. For those that may be vertically challenged, take no offense to what I write, but do feel free to comment. Even if it’s to tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. So why is it better to be tall? Here are a few of my reasons:
1) If you’re tall, you will almost always have people looking up at you when they’re talking to you. This isntantly gives you an advantage as you will subconsciously be given more respect and authority. This is one of the main reasons why children listen to adults. The adults are simply taller!
2) People will notice you first! This can be considered an advantage if you’re in a crowd of people, and someone’s trying to find you, they’ll be able to see your head sticking above everyone else. Also, if you’re walking in a row with other people who are shorter than you, then those that notice your group will typically notice the tallest of the group first.
3) This one’s mainly for guys: Being a tall guy gives you one advantage over guys that are shorter than you in the minds of most girls I’d say. You’ll almost always hear the saying “Tall, dark, handsome” when girls are looking for that guy. You’ll almost never hear them looking for someone short. This isn’t to say that the shorter guy can’t win out, but it’s just one more obstacle that the tall guy doesn’t have to deal with.
4) Another reason that it’s better to be tall is that when you’re tall, you can reach higher places. You can reach to that top shelf, or that higher rack in a store where that shirt you want is hanging from. No need for stools or small ladders when you can just get on your tip toes and reach what you need.
5) A fifth reason is that you’ll have a chance at basketball. While the world doens’t revolve around basketball, if you’re tall you open up the possibility of being able to play professionally. While only 0.00005% of the population or some ridiculously small number of the population actually can play basketball as a profession, that 0.00005% are almost always tall! You’ll be able to find some exceptions here and there, but it’s harder to make it as a basketball player if you’re short. Even if you’re not athletic, and you’re tall, people will still ask you if you’re a basketball player.
6) If you’re tall, you’re more likely to earn more in a job. There’ve been studies done which have shown that for every extra inch you are over someone else, you will earn an extra $500-600 in salary. While there are also many other factors in salary, it’s better to have height on your side than not.
7) You’ll always be able to ride on amusement park rides. I don’t remember ever seeing any rollercoaster with you must be shorter than signs in order to ride, unless it’s a kiddy ride. Typically you’ll have to be taller than a certain height in order to ride. It’s no fun if you’re the only one of your friends who isn’t tall enough to ride.
While these are only a few advantages to being tall, there are a few disadvantages though. You can’t really ride in small cars since your head will almost always hit the top of the car. This can be really annoying when driving. 
Actually, that’s the only disadvantage that I can think of right now

one thing about amusement park rides: sometimes your legs are too long to fit under the safety bar things and thus being tall prevents you from riding (at least without pain). Oh woe!

i am 15 years old and am 6ft 3inches. until this year i thought that being tall was the worst thing that could happen 2 anyone but i now realise that its a gift not a burden. 4 every1 that is tall in the world…b proud and stand tall:grin:

that has the be the stupidest thing I ever read. I’ve met plenty of short guys who have loads of confidence who might even be scary. Taibros is not tall, you can tell and he can’t spell. Stupid thing said #2 if you’re tall you have a chance to play pro basketball. You make more money when you’re tall. I’ll use an acronym now, BS. If it is true that’s not right. 2 out of 3 bosses I’ve had that were all men were shorter than me. I’m 6′ which I consider to be tall like tall dark and handsome.

heh it’s not my fault you’re not getting paid well. Actual studies have been done that have shown that you’ll get paid more for being taller, when comparing between two people who have similar jobs. Blame society for the premium it puts on a persons looks.

i am 6′3″ and in ninth grade i come from a tall family:smile: they are really kul and I have lots of shorter friends . it is frustrating to find a b-friend because i think they are intimidated. I really don’t give a damn about how tall they are!

I’m 5′7” and for a really long time I was obsessed about my height. I really wanted to be taller. I’m older now, I know it’s something I can’t change. So I’ve just learned to accept it. They’re more important things to worry about. Then being tall.
Sadly, being short is considered a flaw in our society. If you’re a short guy people assume you’re weaker more imature, more incompetent and less capable. They assume those things to moment they see you This is totally unfair, To be treated differently for a uncontrollable physical trait. Being short guy is a huge problem when it comes to dating. Girls will reject you before you can even say “hello” they often have a height “cutoff” Taller men are seen as the “protectors” of women. I’ve seen girls approach men who aren’t even good looking but yet they still approach them because they’re tall. A short guy has to work that much harder just to get ahead and not just in dating in everything, You can be ugly, fat, poor, have a bad personality be a drug addict a criminal you name it but you’ll still have an easier time getting a date then a short guy. so for all you tall guys who are big ladies men. Cut us short guys some slack You have no f&cking idea how hard it is for us.

Yeh u have a good point mate, everything u said there is completely true, although someone who is short but also has a really positive quality will draw more attention and get more respect than a tall person. why? because it stands out! i’m only 5′6 - 5′7 and sometime i think people exaggerate and worry about their height too much i wldn’t say i’ve lost out on many things cos of my height and i see plenty of other people of around my height even my age (17) although i agree with the fact that short people miss out on a bit more than tall people, overall there are ten times more things to worry about, BTW u tall guys boasting about your height is kinda pathetic, just imagine if u were short u’d have no control then you’d miss out, how would u feel then???

It is not that fine to be a tall young man! Trust me I know, I’m 6′1 186cm. Being shorter is also being stronger, sharper, and quicker. They have fast reaction time but even more so their quickness! I wish I was 5′9 178cm because I would just be soooo fly you know? Taller men can’t get around quicker and always stand out in the crowd, because they have longer legs and a longer torso! Height is good if you want to play sports like basketball or football! Most bodybuilders, skiers, stuntmen, trackstars, and olympists are either average or shorter than average, okay? With a tall person, his or her legs are always going to be in the way… okay?

i know its true because i am 5′10″ (female) and am one of the talles girls in my school. i scored a 1040 on the SAT - college level test in 7th grade, and right now in 9th grade im taking two AP (college level classes) and im doing better than some older (and mostly shorter) people. another thing my older sister is shorter than me, and im smarter than her. being tall ROCKS!:grin:
and in most cases being taller = being healthier, more developed countries have taller people than LDC.
for being short, one of my best friends is ,and its cool to, it takes all kinds of people to run the world.
if you still dont believe taller people have more advantages (than leadership positions in jobs, higher avergage pay, and smarts) we are on average taller now, than years ago, and way taller than the cavepeople, and i deffinately say we are smarter than them.

I’m 5′3 and that’s probably really short. However, I’d like to share a couple of things I’ve learnt.
1. Unless you really want to join the nba, I find basketball is more fun for short people : We shoot the jumper and the three better, we drive the paint quicker, people can’t steal the ball off our dribble, we run the floor better…
2. I love flying, but most tall people seem to suffer it. Some well paying jobs need short people who can fly a lot

Im 5′5″/Male… being not so tall gives the advantage of punching taller guys in the balls if ever in a fight. As far as the list goes… 1. You dont have to be tall to be a parent. Its the control and raising that you have over your kids. 2. While this may be true, you should be going in a place with a group and leave with a group. You’ll never have to find them unless you do split up people with common sence will usually say “Meet back here at so and so hours” 3. Tall, Dark, and Handsome is just a figure of speech Short, Dark, and Handsome is the same deal. Just depends on the woman and what shes looking for. 4. Tall people can reach tall places, for sure. I like to watch them when they reach for that bottom shelf. 5. Dont play basketball so that solves that problem. 6. Most absurd thing Ive ever heard. Period. 7. All my friends including myself have been able to ride rides since Junior High. Around this time people are still growing anyways

Tall people cant be jockeys, they cant fit in cars, planes, they hit their heads in tube trains and they have back problems. also lots of them slouch and it looks disgusting. They also bash their head off everything and fall over their own feet when they walk.

I’m 6ft and I’m a girl! I always wanted to be shorter so i could be like the rest of the girls in my school. I’m even taller than most of the guys. No one can rock a mini skirt better then i can because of my long legs but i have a question for people on here…

I am about 7 feet tall and i like a girl who is about 5′2. She reminds of a munchkin, but i still love her. I am a petit person and i am in no way vulnerable, I am always respected. I think that guys are attracted to confident girls, no matter what hight! Just hold you head up high and be proud of your height. Some people would love to be 5″8!

If you are a girl and your tall dont worry, guys like tall girls, imean isn’t obvious all the hot models are tall, but i hope your not ugly, actually i think every girl has a unique side where they are cuter than others.
Being Tall
If you’re a guy and you are tall, i know it could be cinfusing. Your walking in the mall and people look at you, but the thing is you cant tell if they’re thinkin “look at that he’s so cute and tall” or “omg look at the freak”. Anyways I believe that girls should be shorter than boys in a relationship, it just looks right.

Thanks, this makes me feel happy about being tall. Anyone, including guys, who are taller than me just intimidate me. I like being tall.
Are there any health benefits though?
PS: There are certain height limits for rides, but I guess it’s very rare someone’s 2m!!!!

Esta bueno ser alto por una cuastion estetica. Lo realmente importante es el interior de cada uno. Tal vez en una etapa mas adolescente o frivola la mujer se fije en la altura pero con la edad valora otras cosas. Yo mido 1.71 aprox 5.7 y me alcanza para superar a la mayoria de las mujeres. Hey, I’m 6′8 and my girlfriend is 5′11. It’s pretty stinkin’ amazing. I am a junior at College of the Ozarks. I want everyone to remember something, no matter how tall you may be or how short you may be, God has made us exactly how he wants us. You may find yourself in a situation sometime where you can use your shortness to help out a tall person, or vice-versa. God will totally use your size to fulfill his plan for your life

Being tall is a great. I am 6′4 and I play basketball. I have seen coaches pick up players before they even try out just because of their height. I was one of those. But I have also seen guys who are a really good, yet get rejected even before they have a chance to play because of their height. Also, girls man. Women love men who are tall. And your more confident as a man. A man is meant to be a leader and a protector, that’s his natural role in the family. Women feel safer around bigger guys. You have an easier time finding jobs and being the center of attention. But short or tall, as long as you love who you are, you should be ok. But most short men don’t like themsleves. The suicide rate for short men are a lot higher than tall men. peace

Shorter people have faster reaction times, greater ability to accelerate body movements, stronger muscles in proportion to body weight, greater endurance, and the ability to rotate the body faster. They are also less likely to break bones in falling. As a consequence of these physical attributes, shorter people can excel as gymnasts, divers, skiers, martial artists, rock climbers, figure skaters, rodeo riders, soccer players and long distance runners. Within their weight classes they are excellent wrestlers, boxers, and weight lifters.
smaller people live longer. The reason for this is that bigger bodies have more cells and these cells are subject to replacement due to wear or damage.
taller people had a 20 to 60% higher incidence of cancer compared to shorter people. More recently, breast, testicular, and prostate cancer studies found taller women and men suffered from substantially higher cancer rates.
oh and about that girls likeing big guys, thats easily solved. find a girl thats shorter than you. lol
im 5′7, and going through a grotwh spurt right now, so i could ender up much bigger, but i thought it was a good idea to point out the advantages of being smaller. its a 2 way street.

the average point guard is taller than 6′ and thats the SHORTEST guy on the team….forwards are 6′7” and above and centers are usually at least 6′11”

I’m 19 180lbs fit lean and my height is 6′1.Chicks dig me dude! HAHA tall guys get all the perks. When I was younger,chicks kinda turn me down sometimes but as we all get older and older,they threw and kept throwing themselves at me.lol.Tall and love it.God blessed me and blesses every tall guys and girls. well when I was 12 I was about 4ft11″ and by the time I was 13 I was like 5ft2″ and now I am 16 and 5ft3″ am I really growing I don’t know but I think
I will be able to grow as it is said that you keep growing till you are about 19or20 so I’ve still got about 3-4 years. So I can
1) Eat Healthy Foods like lady finger or broccoli or even cauliflower
2) Exercise 3 or 4 times every week
well it depends on several things like your genes, how Tall are your Parents, Type of Diet you have or the amount of Exercise you do or even Environment

Thank you RJ for pointing out major advantages of being short. Things such as faster reaction times, greater ability to accelerate body movements and the reduced chances of breaking bones in falling. I am short and have extreemly quick reaction times, quick acceleration and have never broken a bone. Im 16, 5′2 still and i’m pround to be small. Fair enough, girls normally look for taller guys but i personally have other qualities that make up for this factor. Finally i would like to point out that many managers of large companies are small men an they demand natural athourity. Also many of the best soccer players, rygby wingers and wrestlers continually beat bigger men in their chosen areas.

and i believe they should be respected by other people more
there are alot of advantages that a athletic short guy has over a an athletic tall guy. less height means they can move around and carry there body easier, making it better for break dancing, gymnastics, getting through smaller spaces, bleding into a crowd, hiding, being ninja xD.
im like 6,1 and 16 yr’s old and i hope i don’t get any taller, I wish i was like 5,8 or sumthing

haha all you tall people who want to be like 5′7 or something…you guys are just being silly.Seriously, being tall is a major natural advantage. I’m 18 and 6′2 and wouldn’t have it any other way. I think most of you who hate being tall are maybe self conscious about being skinny because usually taller people are skinnier.Just go to the gym and pack on some meat.Trust me, no chick would pass up a muscular tall guy.

I always dream of being taller than my Parents. I wanted to be 5″5 inches tall or 5″10 inches tall. I am about 4″10 and I taught I was taller than that. I am not 4″11 inches and I should start accepting who I am my mom is taller than me she’s 5 feet 1 inches. I am petite height. I don’t want to worry too much about my height otherwise I will start getting shorter .

I’m 6′10 and man it sucks! I go out for a quiet coffee or drink with my friends and you always get wankers coming up saying “oh wow man you;re soo tall” Thankyou for telling me because I haven’t noticed today. My question to all of you is this… If I was over-weight and looked like a beach ball on legs, would people come up and ask how much i weigh? Would they come up and say “Man you’re so fat what do you weigh in at?” They can’t help being fat and we can’t help being tall so why can’t people just get over it and notice who we are and not what we are?
If being tall is the only thing you have going for you to meet women than I pity you, because being tall will always be there but soon they will grow bored if you can’t hold a conversation.

And to all of you that think being 6′1 is tall, wake up!! That’s average and if you think you’re tall then all of your friends must be short. You guys don’t have a clue what it is like to receive unwanted attention from people who think it is appropriate to pass judgement on our height. It annoys me when people act like they know you just because you’re tall, some of the things people come up and randomly say surprises me.

i think 5″10 girls and anything above is great. around 5″9-5″10 is the average for men, so 6″1 is tall.

Hi my name is klaudia im 13 from 2months and im 173 i know that im not that tall but I^m still jung i wish to be smaller but coz evry body in class is smaller than me and i hate that the smaller girls are cuter act.. the boys thats truee whan thay are tall thay more atractive or some think like that but a girl noooo…. whan i play some thing on p.e evry body is like afrait of me lol
