It roughly signifies that a normal application will block the sun for 45 more minutes before your skin will burn. “Good to know” I say, as I hastily apply it and dive onto my beach chair for some sun-baking. SPF45 is some strong stuff, enough so that it is clearly visible on my person where I have and where I have not applied sunblock.
