Hoodwinked and Bamboozled!
March 17th, 2005
A few days ago, Mazie and I went up to Toronto for the day. Eat Chinese food, and just visit the sites, and eat some more Chinese food. While we were looking online for various events going on in Toronto, we found out that they were on their March Break, where I guess everyone gets a week off. We saw that there was a carnival going on inside the Rogers Centre, formerly known as the Skydome. Being the kids that we are, we thought it’d be fun to check it out and see if it there would be anything fun in there.
So we goto this carnival, and pay $8 Canadian each to get in. At first it was pretty neat, especially seeing how neither of us had been inside the stadium before. We proceed to walk around and find our way down to the ground where the carnival was set up. Seeing how we didn’t pay the $20/person to include rides we just started to walk around and see what was there.
Like all carnivals, there were a bunch of games set up in the middle area with people yelling at you left and right trying to get you to play. As we’re walking around, the people start asking why Mazie hasn’t gotten any stuffed animals yet and how I need to go win her something. Playing to female emotions, this led to me needing to win her something so that she woulnd’t be empty handed.
We ended up stopping at a basketball game where you had to make 3 baskets in order to get a prize. I went and made 2 of 3, and “won” their smallest prize. The guy then proceeds to give Mazie the ball and tells her to shoot saying that he’ll give us a “bigger” prize while quickly saying I’ll only pay if she makes all three. Before you know it, she’s made her 3 baskets and he’s now charging me another $5 Canadian all for a weak “upgrade” to an ugly fish.

After all of this, and walking around and watching people, and even sitting in the seats for a while, we left the carnival, deciding to never goto carnivals again. Next time you goto a carnival, beware of the games! Before you know it, you’ll have yourself a stuffed animal that would normally cost you $5 or less while you paid $20 to win it.
Overall though, it was still a good time up in Toronto, and a wonderful 6 days with Mazie.
