I want to be a FOB

FOB - n. - Fresh-Off-the-Boat
These three letters mean the world to some, and nothing to others. If you’re part of the former, this article is for you. What does it mean to be a FOB? Better yet, what does it take to become one? (the emo-glasses help, mike)
Well here are somethings I’ve noticed about fob’s.
1. In touch with the Motherland - this is of course obvious for foreign nationals. but also for those aspiring fobs (fobwanabes). Fobs love the homeland, and celebrate foreign holidays when no one else is.
2. Bad Grammar - no speaka engrish. whats the point in learning English correctly when you only moved here to get an education?
3. Awkward dress - they either dress uber trendy, i.e. stuff straight out of Anime or Hip-Hop videos, or uber dorky, i.e. stuff dougie houser used to wear as that 14 yr old doctor.
4. Homoethnic Coalescence - people of like kin congregate together. and then they proceed to move around as a single unit. like a giant asian snowball.
5. Misplaced Style - the haircut is straight out of anime, and yet no one in America watches anime. It is also a different color.
6. Babel - Instead of ever dropping a hint that they are learning from Americans, they speak in their fob bubble in their foreign tongue to only each other. The presence of non-foreign speakers does not stop them from conversing in a language that no one cares to understand.
7. V is for victory - ok, so Asia never won any world war, so why do they give the victory sign? Thus for photographic opportunities, these Vs are ubiquitous among the fobs, with a wide-smile grin to boot.
I leave you with our own Taibro version of the Fob Shot. Add your own observations!

You forget the FOBs in disguise! The ones that look like normal, everyday people, but turn into uuber fobs the moment they get near a fob “snowball”.
Also, there’s the whole one-guy-horde-of-girls and one-girl-horde-of-guys effect that seems to take place.
(and no hating of the anime! =b)

The whole thing on no one watches Anime in America is so wrong… Webster even has an Anime club (and not one is asian…). I might add… FOBs are definitely cool.

The two fingers mean “Yeah!” not “Victory”…and nowadays they also do the “cool” pose where they use the “L” made by the thumb and index finger and put it right in front of the chin. Man, I could go on and on. It helps to live in Taiwan. One more to add to your list:
They feel compelled to state the obvious. “You gained weight.” “You changed your hairstyle.” “You look like you haven’t been getting enough sleep.” “You have a zit.”

Dude you need a pair of glasses.
Comment by GEE!!! — 9/2/06 @ 1:58 am
and a good pair at that.
Comment by GEE!!! — 9/2/06 @ 1:58 am
so what’s your point on this?
FOB is not a race idiots, therefore they all don’t do everything like “FOB”’s
you really need to get a life, if your considering this crap to be something that’d offend “FOB”s you’re just doing what a racist would be, why don’t you offend someone who’d live in ASIA for instance?
why? cuz they’re trying to learn how to speak english just as well as americans, and how can you get education without proper learning of the language they TEACHES in? dumbass. if you want to learn the education in U.S, you’ll need to learn the american language cuz no one is gonna teach it in Chinese, or Vietnamese. Another thing, the finger in V formation isn’t just for Victory idiot, it can also be “okay” or just a pose for cameras. You’re just a stupid ass stereotype. so stfu before you try to offend someone
