Enjoy Life!

November 16th, 2004

The older we get, the more responsible we are supposed to become. If we don’t behave responsibly/maturely, we’re told to “act our age.” So as time goes on, we lose more and more the sense of carelessness that we all had when we were children. When you’re young, you don’t think about the consequences of your actions. You go and play in the mud because it’s fun and don’t worry about your dirty clothes. You do things because you enjoy doing them, and they’re fun! What happens to that sense of enjoyment as we get older? For a lot of people, it disappears. They find themselves following a daily routine that may only really include work and sleep. Then you hear them complaining about how they don’t have any fun anymore or how work sucks up their life. People need to enjoy life and all that it has to offer.

You may think that I’m telling you to shrug off responsibility in order to go have fun, but that’s not what enjoying life is really about. To really enjoy life, you have to first be happy with yourself. If you’re not happy with yourself, then you’ll never go about enjoying anything. Next, find something to do that excites you. Whether it’s gardening, playing sports, or reading a book, make sure you continue to do it. If you used to love to play basketball, then go back out and play some basketball. Kids are able to enjoy life because they don’t really worry about much, which is why we still need to be responsible. You can’t enjoy reading a book if you’re worried about paying off your bills or that test the next day. Lastly, be thankful. Be thankful for what you have, and even be thankful for what you don’t have. When you’re thankful, you can appreciate things more which lets you enjoy everything that much more.

I could go on about how someone can go about enjoying life, but I think these are three pretty basic things that people can do to enjoy their own life more. Well, if you still can’t find yourself enjoying life, you can just live vicariously through the Taibros. ;)

  3. great post… I’ve become more aware of these things lately, too. so how’s that Griffes coming along? :) I sat down a couple nights ago and “browsed” through it at the keyboard for the first time in a long while. I’m curious whether UB still has those practice rooms available.
