It’s all about love
August 28th, 2004
Well, I taught a lesson yesterday at Youth Group about how we go about representing God as Christians. How do we go about witnessing to others, and what’ s the best way to do it. In looking up stuff online for things that I could take about/share during my lesson, I searched for witnessing sermons. I read the first link that came back and thought it was pretty good and pretty accurate. So with what I read, my lesson focused mainly on how we go about loving one another. Here’s an excerpt from the sermon that I found that’s entitled “Love Never Shoves”
He said here is how you will know that a person is a disciple, by their love. Notice what Jesus did not say. He didn’t say the way that you will know that they are a Christian is because of their faith. He didn’t say you will know that they are a Christian because of their prayers; you will see them praying to me. He didn’t say you will know they are a Christian because of their worship. They won’t worship Buddha. They won’t worship Mohammed. They will worship me. He didn’t say that. He didn’t mention faith.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13 NKVJ)
He didn’t say you will know they are a Christian by their praise. He didn’t say you will know that they are a Christian by their holiness, because they live right. No! You will know that they are Christian by their love! So the greatest manifestation of Christianity, of discipleship, is not how many Bible verses you know. It’s not how much praying you do. Praise God for Bible versus and prayer, but there is something that God wants you to tap into that covers all the bases. I can show you in scripture that the only way that faith works is through love! The degree of your love relates to the degree of you holiness! If you love him you will keep his commandments! So you can’t talk about holiness unless you talk about love. You can’t talk about faith unless you talk about love. Love gives you everything. You won’t pray unless you love him. You won’t give unless you love him. So it’s all about love.
It’ s all about love like the pastor said in this sermon. The best way to go about witnessing to someone, isn’t with words, it isn’t by spouting off Bible verses, it’s by how we go about treating them, with God’s love. That is the key, that is what will win people over to Jesus.
