Worst Job
July 29th, 2004
Well I’m currently writing this in the good ol’ city of Chicago. I was able to make it here safe and sound although delayed by an hour due to a flight malfunction or something on the incoming flight to Rochester.
While I was waiting, I was thinking that being an airlines desk attendent at the gate must be one of the worst jobs. You have to deal with crazy people, people who are easily angered, and people who are just plain dumb. Worst of all, you have to be the one to make the announcement that the flight is delayed. No passenger likes to hear that the flight they were planning on boarding was delayed due to some various malfunction or whatnot. Hearing that a flight’s delayed only causes passengers to become even more angry and even more short tempered due to the fact that they are now running off of their intended schedule. This is especially true for those who had their trip all planned out and had only 30 minutes between connecting flights, only to find out that the flight’s delayed 1 hour and they’ll be missing their connecting flight.
The desk attendent has to relay all this bad information. They never seem to be giving out good information, unless you were trying to fly standby and they announce your name to let you know that you made it onto the flight. They must get so much grief from passengers, and they have pretty much no control over the situation. They’re not flying the plane, they’re just telling everyone that it’s late.
This job along with any other job that deals heavily with interaction with other people have just got to be terrible. People are really very stupid, as I can attest to this having worked at McDonald’s. It’s truly amazing how stupid people can be, only to make the jobs of those who have to deal with them terrible. Although it can be nice to be talking with people who are actually competent and nice. So for all those who are travelling next time or dealing with another person who really has no control over your problem, give them a break. Be nice to them, smile at them, and don’t be rude to them. I mean come on, how would you like to be the one dealing with people who’re just rude. So go out and be nice!

“mean people suck” ~ I used to laugh whenever I saw one of those bumper stickers. I want to hear some McDonald’s stories!
