Chinese names…
July 22nd, 2004
Let me first start off by saying that I love my fob :), but recently, I’ve been looking for housing with a roommate over in Buffalo. I’ve been able to go through the Buffalo Chinese Christian Church which has been really helpful, and will probably be the church that I’ll be going to during the school year unless I come home for the weekend. However, for the most part, there are a bunch of born overseas asians who goto that church. I reiceved an e-mail about housing and the name that was given was a chinese name. Basically their Chinese name in English. After first reading through the e-mail I was happy that another living situation had opened up for me. However, upon looking at the name, I was wondering…guy or girl…I couldn’t tell from the e-mail whether or not it was a guy or girl e-mailing me about housing. Fortunately they left a number and I gave them a call to find out that it was a guy. It was actaully quite humorous. It’s kinda like the name Pat in that SNL sketch…guy or girl. Maybe it’s cause my Chinese isn’t very good so I can’t just tell by looking at a name, but come on, English names here would help greatly! Oh well, looks like I’ll need to be practicing up on my Mandarin for the coming school year.

Maybe you can help him find a less ambiguous English name. How about Dana, Dominique, Ashley, Tory, Jamie, Leslie, Sky, or Taylor? Oh wait a a second..
This reminds me of the character that Mos Def plays in this movie.
