Have you ever wondered?
July 15th, 2004
While talking to Mazie, we came upon the topic of running into things/hitting our heads on things. So that gave me the idea to write about this.
For those of you that know my brother, you know that he’s a pretty smart guy. Going to Carnegie Mellon University down in Pittsburgh, having 3 majors, with his favorite number being 4, and the one who doesn’t seem to ever study yet does better than everyone else on the tests. These are just some of the academic qualities that you might know about him that would make you say that he’s a really smart guy.
Now the question is, do you know why he’s so smart? Well, it could be in the genes, but that’s not a very fun answer. Instead I propose it’s due to my brothers clumsiness. That’s where his true brain power comes from. You see, when he was younger, he was a very clumsy kid. He would crawl under the kitchen table to get something, then back out half way and stand up only to hit his head on the table. He took a many tumbles down the stairs even. Best of all, when he was around 8 or 9 I think, whenever his head would hurt, he would go up against a wall, usually a concrete wall, and just start hitting his head on it. Bang bang bang, just like that he would be smacking his head on the wall. He even hit his head once when we were waiting in line to get circus tickets when we were young and he banged his head on the metal dividers cause we were swinging between them or something. Interestingly enough, my brother also has an odly shaped head with extra “lumps” in places. Could just be that he deformed his head with all that hitting, or he’s got a bigger head to hold more brain.
With all of this head hitting, it somehow must’ve made him extra smart. Somehow helped him along the way to be able to pick up how to calculate math problems, or solve chemical equations, or whatever those chemical engineers do. While he can still be very clumsy, he’s atleast now got the brain power to compensate. So maybe we should all be banging our heads on the walls. Maybe you’re actually gaining brain cells instead of killing them. Who knows, maybe my brother was onto something. Then again, it could just be the genes.

Interesting, I didn’t know that. This could mean he would have been smarter if he didn’t hit his head.

haha, maybe he’d be doing 6 majors if he hadn’t hit his head so much.
